Short stories and sharp lessons about hiring, management, and building teams — from the Founder of HireUA.

There’s a trap in business ownership nobody really talks about.

You start delegating everything.

The easy stuff goes first.

Then the execution.

Then the day-to-day operations.

Eventually you look at your calendar and realize your entire job consists of:

  • Problems
  • Paperwork
  • Difficult conversations
  • Decisions nobody else wants to make

Congratulations.

You’ve successfully delegated all the enjoyable parts of your business.

Now you get to deal with everybody else’s headaches.

I see this happen a lot with growing businesses.

The client communication goes. The actual work goes. The stuff that’s your talent, your zone of genius, gets handed off. Usually because that’s where you were spending most of your time.

Maybe you love talking to clients.

Maybe you run a content agency and you love making content.

Maybe you’re a construction guy who loves being on site. Or designing. Or you’re in landscaping and you love being outside, working with your hands.

It doesn’t matter. It applies to almost any business.

The next thing you know, you’ve taken exactly what you’re good at, exactly what you loved, and handed it off.

And now?

You do paperwork. Contracts. Legal. Invoicing.

You’re basically a very, very highly paid admin, doing exactly what you hate.

I say this a lot, but I’m pretty sure most business owners didn’t get into business to do more paperwork and talk to more lawyers and accountants.

Entrepreneurs are high-performing people with high agency. That stuff usually makes us feel boxed in.

Here’s the thing:

Nobody gives you a roadmap for this. There’s no blueprint. You just learn it along the way.

The answer is hiring the right person who can actually handle the stuff you hate.

And yes, it’s hard. Handing off your taxes, your accounting, your legal stuff takes trust.

But that’s the whole game. Design the company so you do more of what you enjoy, and you make more money doing it.

That takes the right people, in the right seats, at the right cost.

So you can live in your zone of genius instead of your zone of hatred.

Founder, HireUA

I moved to Ukraine in 2016 and built internet businesses from Eastern Europe. My first hires there changed how I work, and by 2021 that lesson had turned into a small recruiting business that became HireUA. Since then we’ve made 1,100+ placements across 40+ countries and saved clients an estimated $100M+ in payroll. I’m a member of EO (Entrepreneurs’ Organization) and the former EO Staffing & Recruiting industry lead.
